Amy Culver – Project Lead

Amy Culver has spent the last 6 years working/volunteering on and off in West and East Africa. Her concentration has been in Tanzania, working on such projects as teaching women in business, tribal and cultural indigenous tourism, and business development. She created a small clothing line to empower single mothers, walked 170 miles on foot through the Rift Valley with five Maasai warriors, lived with the Datoga and spent serious time with the Bushmen. Prior to her love of Tanzania, she owned an internationally recognized James Beard award winning restaurant and catering business. which she sold in 2006. Her restaurant Mangoes was featured in all the leading magazines and newspapers: Food and Wine, Bon Appetit, InStyle, The Robb Report, The New York Times, and numerous times on the food and travel channels. Some of her personal accolades include being an Athena Award (athenainternational.org) recipient, an internationally recognized award given to individuals that demonstrate excellence, initiative in their profession, as well as contributing time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community, and assisting women in realizing their full leadership potential. Amy has received numerous humanitarian awards, lifetime achievement awards, and has been appointed to several boards ranging from Tourism Development Council to AIDS Help.  She has authored a cookbook, shows her photography professionally, lectures on Africa and is often a guest columnist.

Vance R. Harris – Project Manager

Vance Harris has 13 years experience in project management and system design. He has operated his own consulting company for the past six years, and specializes in implementing and training financial systems for large entities. He was instrumental in Project Vote, a national nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that promotes voting in low-income and minority communities in the U.S., as a senior consultant in the financial reporting and process development. His responsibilities included working with senior leadership, implementing nationwide operations and disbursements. His vast work in leadership roles as a consultant has included producing events, fundraising, social awareness and cultural preservation.

Digital Island Media, an Emmy Award winning media production company with over 30 years combined experience. Steve Panariello and Chad Newman, principles at DIM, have supported the Busara Team with project development and amazing video.
